Earthy Assemblies

Solo Exhibition, Robertson Gallery at the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center, Birmingham, Michigan. October 2023

Art Fair 2023

I produced new larger works of sculptures that move, can be shifted and repositioned, rather than making stationary sculptures. These works have been made with domestic spaces in mind. I am interested in creating objects to both interrupt space and also be part of the environment, mobile and interactive.

Penland Winter Resident

At Penland I was awarded the space and time to focus on some of my glaze tests and develop a seed for a new idea: clusters that shift and move, sculptures that can be interactive instead of static.

Art Fair 2022

I was given the Award of Excellence and asked to come back next year!

Glaze Chemistry 2021

Level up. Glaze formulation was not something taught in my art program at University. 20 years into my ceramic art career, I started taking online courses to learn how to create and manipulate glazes. I now teach glaze chemistry and make all of my own glazes.

Summer of 2020 and Anderson Ranch

Pandemic Year – home studio artist in residence. I took multiple virtual courses this last pandemic year, one of which was through Anderson Ranch with artists David Hilliard and Andrea Wallace – two great photographers both creating works centered around personal relationships. I ended up photographing myself, and my laundry. Not dirty laundry but the things I keep, shuffle around, then wash and repeat. The monotony of the mundane buried me this last year while being homebound. This new photography adventure helped pull me out.

Manufactured Mementos: New Work By Darien Arikoski-Johnson and Monica Wilson
This Friday, July 11 from 6 - 8pm, we will host an opening reception for Manufactured Mementos. Our newest exhibition explores the methods in which memories are created, catalogued, and later retrieved. Inspired by the digital recording of moments in time, Darien Arikoski-Johnson's work questions the process in which we create and remember experiences. Monica Wilson utilizes manufactured materials on ceramic organic forms to stir up recollections of times past.
Johnson received an MFA at Arizona State University in 2009. He was an artist in resident at The Experimental Pottery Workshop, Jingdezhen, China and at Guldagergaard: International Ceramic Research Center, Skælskør, Denmark. He was an NCECA emerging artist at the 2012 conference in Seattle, WA.

Wilson graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in ceramics and sculpture, and was an artist-in-residence at the Byrdcliffe Arts Colony (Woodstock, New York), Heights University (Adrian, Michigan), Kripal Kumbh Pottery (Jaipur, India), and Brigham Young University (Provo, Utah).
